Emily Marshall (Ph.D. Princeton, 2012) is an Assistant Professor at Franklin & Marshall College, in the Department of Sociology and Public Health Program. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, she learned and crafted innovative methods of data collection and analysis, as well as having received an R03 from NIH for innovative analysis of existing longitudinal survey data. Dr. Marshall brings expertise in data collection through mobile devices.

Ed Novak is a Computer Scientist with expertise in mobile application development and operating systems. On this project he will write computer programs to facilitate automatic download of voice notes to data storage devices and upload of research questions and prompts.

Harriet Okatch (Ph.D. University of Botswana, 2003; MPH Perelman School of Medicine, 2015), is an Assistant Professor of Biology and Public Health at Franklin & Marshall College. She has previously conducted qualitative research on experiences of caregivers of children with tuberculosis as they navigate medication-taking and physician appointment scheduling. She also recently completed a project interviewing professionals, including nurses and community members, to investigate factors contributing to high lead poisoning prevalence in Lancaster, PA. Dr. Okatch’s methodological expertise includes previous research employing data collection on mobile devices in a study using two-way text messaging between researchers and HIV patients to improve medication adherence by HIV-infected adolescents.

Research Assistant


Zoe Favilla is the Research Assistant for this project.

Zoe is a junior at Franklin & Marshall College double majoring in psychology and public health. She is passionate about working in collaborative environments to combat mental health and public health disparities. Zoe has experience as a developmental psychology research assistant, a psychology laboratory teaching assistant, and a college tour guide. She is interested in gaining more opportunities to examine community-based issues to ultimately maximize overall well-being.

Kayla Cottiers was the Research Assistant for this project from December 2020 - October 2021.

She graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in May of 2021, achieving a B.A. in Psychology and Public Health with a concentration in Biology.

Currently, Kayla is a Research Assistant in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University, School of Medicine, working on clinical trials investigating the pathophysiology of several mental disorders.
